Water and Sanitation
IDF initially launched its water and sanitation program with Sida’s assistance in 1995. Later on, the program is funded by PKSF (Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation), water.org, and IDF’s internal funding. The aim is to provide safe drinking water and improve sanitation facilities in underserved areas.
To ensure communities have access to clean water and sanitation through the installation of water supply systems, sanitary latrines, and other essential infrastructure, especially in areas lacking adequate facilities is the motto of this program.
Activities:
- Installation of Deep/Shallow Tube Wells and Ring Wells: Ensures safe drinking water in rural areas, especially through projects like Samriddhi and in collaboration with PKSF for ethnic families in Lama upazila.
- Construction of Sanitary Latrines: Provides improved sanitation facilities across various project areas, including the Samriddhi project and the WCAD collaboration with water.org.
- Collaborative Projects: Includes the BD Rural Wash Project with PKSF, aimed at improving water, sanitation, and hygiene through IDF's branches in project areas.
Interventions:
- Access to Clean Water: Expands access to safe drinking water through solar-powered tube wells, pipe networks, and ring wells.
- Improved Sanitation Infrastructure: Establishes sanitary latrines to reduce contamination and improve hygiene, especially in rural and disaster-affected areas.
- Community Health and Hygiene Promotion: Implements projects to support public health by reducing waterborne diseases and enhancing sanitation practices.
- Targeted Support for Vulnerable Populations: Provides focused assistance to ethnic poor communities and families affected by crises, such as fire devastation, ensuring they have essential water and sanitation resources.
