Under PKSF’s PACE (Promoting Agricultural Commercialization and Enterprise) project, IDF initiated a two-year program titled “Establishment of Processing Plants for Drying and Marketing Pineapples and Other Fruits” in October 2018 in Khagrachari. The project began in Muslimpara of Matiranga Upazila, aiming to purchase seasonal fruits from local farmers at fair prices, process them in a newly constructed factory, and market the processed products. This initiative encourages entrepreneurship and creates employment opportunities. Initially focused on frying methods for processing fruits like pineapple, jackfruit, and mango, the project shifted to a drying method after insights from a visit to Vietnam.
IDF’s Kachalong Brand Turmeric Powder, processed at its plant in Matiranga, Khagrachari, received BSTI certification. Sourced from improved varieties grown by IDF members, the brand offers a range of locally-produced food items, including spices, mustard oil, dairy products, and pure honey. This marks a new chapter for IDF in delivering healthy, high-quality products.
