Hill Women's Exceptional Initiative: “Nipu Mushroom House”

The Khagrachari hill district, one of the three hill districts, is a splendid convergence of natural beauty and hilly Bengali culture. Its allure is enhanced by the combination of mountains and the Chengi River. Nipu Tripura, a resident of the Thakurchhara area in Khagrachari, had always dreamed of contributing to the welfare of the neglected women in her society. After her marriage, her husband supported her dream, leading to the inception of an exceptional venture: “Mushroom Cultivation”. Initially, Nipu started her mushroom cultivation in a single room. Over time, with a loan of BDT 400,000 from IDF, she expanded her project and established a mushroom farm on her 15 shotok of land, creating employment opportunities for local women. Currently, ten women work regularly on her farm. After covering all expenses, the monthly income from the farm ranges between BDT 50,000 to 60,000. Besides the financial benefits, Nipu has also received honors at both local and national levels.

Nipu Tripura has gained a significant reputation as an established mushroom grower in the Khagrachari district. Both she and her husband work tirelessly on their farm. Nipu is now a symbol of self-reliance among the people of the Thakurchhara Karma area. Inspired by her success, many local women aspire to achieve self-reliance. Trained and motivated by Nipu, numerous poor women in the Khagrachari district have started small-scale mushroom farming projects, becoming self-reliant.

Nipu Tripura believes in the principle that “Industry is the mother of success”. She has demonstrated that success requires not only hard work and determination but also the visionary mindset of a dreamer. As an IDF member, Nipu Tripura is now recognized as a successful entrepreneur. She is now content in her personal life. She remains closely associated with all IDF activities and aims to be a role model for other borrowers. This is the future she envisions for herself.
