Egg collection from the Halda River, the lone source of natural carp breeding has reached a 10 year high this year. Experts have attributed this achievement to awareness of locals and effective steps taken by the authorities concerned to save the river. The decision  to stop stand lifting from the river lower the rubber dumps, ban on fishing from Modhuna ghat to Sattar ghat in the river to save the broodshid and the local awareness contributed this production.

IDF runs a value chain project titled ‘Conservation and development of natural breeding ground of Halda River’ with the collaboration of PKSF. Through this project IDF performs various activities on Halda river like raising awareness and preventing people from fishing in breeding season , providing training to farmers on hatchery management, producing hatchlings using modern technologies , direct surveillance by guards and cooperation with the local administration for protecting the breeding ground.
